Ten buttons… My first guess would be that you’ve to press them to form the stair you want to be teleported(?) too, with “-” being 0 as Konrad said. Seen the size of the tower, it probably goes like 0x and xy, or perhaps even 00x, 0xy and xyz.
The only thing I see going wrong is that some stairs surely have really unfriendly guess. And as Sarah said, they only have “these” to defend themselves. As far as I trust Sarah’s boobs power, I fear that it will not be enough.

I’m guessing it’s the digits 1 through 0, clockwise from the top. Though it’s a little odd that 4 has curved arms and 8 does not.
