i agree, i gave my mom a scale model of grandpas car, which has relly big sentimental value to her, and she burst into tears and said it topped all the gifts she ever got for christmas because it was close to her heart
I think maybe she hadn’t come quite to terms with Noah being a ‘proper’ grown up yet. Keep in mind that even when Noah and Sarah had moved in next to Beverely and Tara, Noah was still basically playing pranks and schemes and whatnot, although that one when he invited them over was basically the last one that they were going to do.
But their Mom was not around for that one, and might not have been told about it. I just don’t think she had quite realised how much Noah had grown up.
She isn’t angry, she’s overwhelmed by her emotions. She run away, but it’s just to not cry (of joy) in public.
So, I’m tempted that she’s the opposite of “not ok”. Her thoughts are probably more “finally he grown up”.
poor Siobhan, she’s been their mother for 20-30 years and she’s just realising that she’s no longer the most important person in her childrens lives. They’ve a;; grown up and she can stop mothering them! What is she going to do with her live now?
I’m leaning more towards, “mom is upset that her family is basically done growing.” So long as she kept seeing Noah as ‘still developing’ she could hold on to the idea that he might decide that maybe he’s not ace and/or wants to do Family Making Stuff. Seeing him established in this relationship with Sarah crushes that hope.
Just gotta start leaving Turkey Baster pamphlets around Tara’s house.
It’s often difficult for a mother to watch her children grow up. They find jobs, leave home, find partners, move in together, and you only see them occasionally. Eventually, they start inviting you over, and you become a guest. You’re no longer the one hosting them, and they’re now independent and at your level.
I’m experiencing this with my mother. I’ve finished my studies and now have a job, and every time I mention leaving, she says, “But you can stay as long as you want.” Of course, she won’t stop me, but she hopes to keep me a little longer (and real estate is expensive, so I’ll wait a bit…).
I know the general feeling about it around here but Noah & Sarah look very bit the couple in the first panel. If they ever want to disuade Siobhan from using the “girlfriend” word, this ain’t helping.

Aww. I was kinda hoping Noah was going to be in a ugly sweater or elf outfit!

She’s crying because she just realized that Stephen is her only grandchild and her husband already claimed him.

True dat. I was forty, and two days off a job interview, when my mother died. Her last words to me were “Get a haircut.” I did, and got the job.

Oh shart, Mom’s dying.

ooooh. I do not like how much that makes sense considering the ‘tour the world while they have the chance’ thing

Oh no. Those don’t look like happy tears. She’s been hiding something, and it’s cracking out.

I highly doubt Nortuet would write the mom like that.

I think Siobhan is just overcome with emotion about her son having a loving, happy life given the difficulties he may have faced through his life.
