This might also double as a plausible reason that the poor thing ended up in an animal shelter.
So, I have a pair of cats that are hoarder rescues, and are completely traumatized by people (it’s getting better, VERY slowly). When I first brought them home, I literally did not see one of them for over a week. To the point where I shut the other one in a room overnight and left out food, just to confirm that the second one was around somewhere.
Eventually, I figured out she’d been crawling through a tiny gap between the dishwasher and cabinets, and curling up in the dead space next to the dishwasher. Prior to that I didn’t realize the gap existed (it was just down at the base where the dishwasher stepped back).
