In the previous panel, while drunk and angry, Witch referred to him as a “stupid dog”. And now she talk to him with deference, calling him”sir” and acting like she’d just been scold.
On a side note, it make me wonder if his disappearance when the girls adopted him wasn’t a test, in top of being, story side, an introduction of his mysterious abilities. Some kind of “are they worthy of my presence” move coming from Steven.

Definitely Steven has some telepathic ability with the Witch. Just like he did with “the girls” in the Witch’s employment, when he unionized them.
