Ah the glorious victory of unsettling your relatives with your passions/hobbies, knowing eventually they’ll get curious enough to actually want to know about them.
I can’t tell if Tara actually is the author that she claims to be, or if she’s just taking a leaf out of her brother’s book and trolling the heck out of her family.
Oh, I’ve never really checked their character page.
The only time I can recall they mentioning Tara’s job was when she came home all exhausted and went straight to her happy place.

I always thought she had some sort of office job.
I think it already mentioned it on the old character page. I have known that Tara is a writer for a while, and I don’t see where else I would have gotten the info. (unless it’s been mentioned in the comic and I somehow forgot)
I checked the Wayback Machine and it looks like the older version of the Character Page had the same job description for her (this is going to the old version that said that Noah was straight rather than asexual). So this isn’t new information but it hasn’t really come up in the comic before.
One of the very first comics, the one where she faceplants into Bev’s butt, has her stressed out after a meeting with a publisher. Her bio on the character page has listed her as an author of trashy romance novels for as long as I’ve been reading this comic – at least a couple of years.
ACKSHUALLY technically, it DID say something different before the recent update to everyone’s bios, mostly Sarah and Noah. Before, Tara’s job was listed as “Shameless author of trashy romance novels.”
Guess she has some shame now.

True, the point is that she was established as a trashy romance author previously. She must also be good at it, to have her readers recommending it like that, even getting her Nan all “hot and bothered”.
This reminded me of a game called Gone Home. In it you (the MC Katie) finds a letter from her teen sister describing her having sex with her girlfriend. You’re only giving a second to read it before Katie (you) puts its down and any attempt to read it again is met with disgust!
Love this. Tara just casually dropping a conversational nuke. I especially like the look on the family’s face in the last panel, when they realise they’ve been reading their niece/granddaughter’s exploits, more or less. That’s going to leave an impact.
😄love the reactions because yeah, how are you supposed to respond to learning the smut you are enjoying was written by a family member based on personal experience?

If you’re not using a punny pseudonym for your porn novels, are you really doing porn right?
Opus the Poet
Tara seems to have a knack, y’know?

It now says Tara is a writer of trashy romance novels on the character page, did it say something different before ?

I guess it just doesn’t come up that often.

“derived from personal experiences” oh yeah, I remember when Bev got Tara a strap on for her birthday. I wonder if that got claimed as a work expense…

So Grandma gets all hot and bothered reading about her granddaughter’s sexual exploits.
That’s gonna leave a mark.

Way to tramuatise most of your family, Tara!
