As someone who didn’t get to see his aunt & uncle’s house one last time before they sold it, I’d argue it’s cause they grew up in said house, are clearly attached to it, and, as stated in the comic, they didn’t let them know ahead of time so they could process it in a better way.

That said, I can see their point, once you get old enough your health goes in the shitter pretty quickly. I’ve been hit with Parkinson’s, skin cancer and a bad knee in the last 3 years and it has really fucked up our travel plans.
No, Tara’s upset because her parents just sprung on her the fact that they’re selling the house and going away on a round-the-world trip for an indeterminate amount of time. It’s extremely sudden and she’s had no time to think about it or process it.
She’s not upset about the house or even really the announcement. She’s upset because she wasn’t even properly told. This is a huge announcement, and all she got was a “oh, by the way” after everyone else already knew

It sounds like they’re tired of Tara manipulating and strong-arming them into make decisions that suit her.
It’s not about Money and even less inheritance (if anything, having money makes it less of a problem for the reasons brought up by Siobhan). Tara already have a house.
It’s just that if you’re parents are going to be far away for a long time, you kinda want to know in advance. I grew up poor, I still told my family well in advance when moving, and I was staying in the same country.
Also I don’t think Tara have an history of manipulating or strong-arming her parents into doing anything. What Gary meant is likely more that they themselves knew that talking about it to their children would give them second thoughts, when they can’t afford to (because they’re not getting any younger). Hence why he said “even if you didn’t mean to”.
He ain’t wrong about her convincing them to stay. But on the whole I get it. They’ve been parents a long time. They only have a few years before they aren’t physically capable of doing the things they want to. The kids are independent. If not now, when?
While I get that, I did initially have a similar reaction when my parents bought a vacation house in Florida some 20 years ago. They already lived in Belgium, meaning a 4 hour drive if I just wanted to visit for a moment, but then suddenly they weren’t there either 6 months per year, and Tara’s parents will be gone for 2 years.
That is not something you just drop on your kids no matter the age.
I never like when people drop news like this during a big family get together event, especially in a scenario where it only affects a few of the people present, it always feels like a tactic to try and get them not to have an emotional response

I could see Conrad deciding to buy it, a good continuation to his future new couple life. And it top of this it would ease everything for the children. I’m sure that Conrad would be against inviting Noah, like Gary and Siobhan do with Dan.

Well, Gary is indeed more sane than Siobhan. Or more understanding at the very least.

But however the conversation starts, that first mention of something is going to “drop” some news. Unless you have hour long phone calls everyday, and drop by for dinner a few times a week, how can you expect to know _everything_ about what someone may be planning?
See, you don’t have to know everything someone is planning, and they don’t have to contact her everyday either. But there’s a extremely large middle ground between telling every little things and announcing a big change at the last minute.
“Hey honey, we’ve been thinking about selling the house, we’re going to start looking for buyers soon, i just thought you should know” is NOT a hard phone call.

I think the big thing here is not the parents deciding to sell the home and travel, but more just casually dropping this big news like it is an afterthought. If they had sat Tara down and explained it, me thinks she would be shocked and have questions, yes, but it would be easier to grasp and she would take the news better. Therein is the issue, in my opinion.
Hope the housing market is more stable where ever they are than it is here. Other wise they’ll get back & have a corpo renting out every house they might want to buy.
They’ll probably end up getting a new place when they get back, if I remember right they DID win the lottery. That’s why Tara and Beverly have their own house, same with Noah and Sarah. Or hell, they might retire to their holiday home.
