It is always helpful to have a spouse who can help you Adult when you are stuck in childhood patterns. Noah and Tara are very lucky that way. And yes, “spouse” even though Sarah and Noah aren’t slapping moist bits together.
I think the fact that they aren’t married is what would disallow the use of spouse for Noah and Sarah. Spouses don’t have to “slap moists bits”, but they do have to refer to husband and/or wife I think.
Personally I’d use significant other (or SO for short), it covers the important parts while being both gender neutral and broad enough to apply the relationships that don’t fit the traditional mold.
I love Sarah’s confident handling of Steven in the third panel (and of Noah in the second one, and of Beverly in the final one…). And the look in the eyes of the two siblings is priceless: they are both thinking the same thing: “How did I ever manage to be blessed with such a wonderful girl, and what did I do right to make her be willing to spend her whole life with me?!”

Depending on how long they’ve been living together they might actually be considered Common law married pretty soon.

Awkward sibling talk GO!

Did Steven just threaten to bit Sarah? Or was he just reminding her of the consequences of translating what he says?

I’m far more interested in what Beverly and Sarah have to say to each other than what Tara and Noah have to say.

But Steven is the one with the good arguments!
